The Roller hockey equipment used by the goalies differ from the equipment used by the players. Goalie is the player behind everyone else whose job is to stop the opponent team from scoring on your team. The goalie should not just try to save the shots that made by opponent from scoring but also direct rebounds to the corners of the Rink so there is no rebound for the offensive team. In order to avoid the injuries and accidents that are likely to happen often due to above extreme reasons, goalies use lot of protective equipment. Roller skates are shoes, that are worn to enable the wearer to roll along on wheels. Roller Hockey is played both quad skates and inline skates, but have different rules and gear. John Joseph Merlin invented the first pair of Roller hockey skates in 1760 at London. Later the "quad" style of roller skate became more popular consisting of four wheels arranged in the same way as a normal car. Unlike Quad Skates, Inline Skates have two front wheels and two back wheels, and have two to five wheels arranged in one straight line. Some skates have a rubber "brake" block connected to the back of one or sometimes both of those skates so the skater can slow down or stop by leaning back on the foot using the brake skate.
1. Gloves (Catcher gloves for inline hockey and Flat batting
gloves for quad hockey)
There is a huge difference between the gloves used by the inline
goalie and quad goalie. In quad hockey a flat batting glove is utilized by the
goalie to rebound the ball rather than grabbing while blocking it whereas in In
inline hockey, goalie utilizes a catcher glove in order to grab the ball that's
aimed at the goal net.
2. Chest arm protectors
Chest arm protectors are usually made of hard plastic to make it
safer. Goalies also use chest and arm protectors to protect their arms,
collarbone areas and chest.
3. Leg pad
These leg pads are specifically made for legs which is intended
for knee protection in addition to legs. The length of these pads are usually
about 38 inches high and 11 inches of width which are mostly made of synthetic
leather and foam.
4. Helmet
The Helmets utilized by the goalies will withstand severe speed
blows and offers a great protection to the head. A neck protector hangs below
the helmet to prevent the neck injuries. The helmet also has mesh at front to
protect the face.
5. Goalie stick
The hockey stick used by the goalies is quite different from the
hockey stick used by the players. The stick of the goalie has a wider shaft and
is mostly made fiber glass panels and wood for more durability and impact
results. These hockey sticks are used for preventing the ball from entering the
goal.
